Learning to Meditate – A Practical Guide with Gary Appel
Sunday October 8, 2-5pm $49 or $41.65 for Sangha Monthly Members & Teacher Trainees
This is a nuts and bolts meditation workshop. Whether you’re a complete novice or have some experience meditating but haven’t quite made it a daily practice, this workshop is designed for you.
You’ll learn what meditation is, why it’s so incredibly valuable, how to build and sustain a daily practice, and we’ll learn and practice numerous meditation techniques.
This three-day weekend retreat was held at the Dao House, just south of Estes Park, Colorado, and literally in the shadow of the iconic Longs Peak. Through Yoga and meditation, this retreat focused on balance – balance in the body, balance in the breath, and balance in the mind.
February 4, 2023 - Exploring the Energy Body
Give yourself a respite from daily life and celebrate Winter, joining me and your fellow yogis for a half-day yoga retreat where we’ll learn about and explore what Yogic teachings call the “energy” or “subtle” body. The retreat will be held at The River Yoga SunnySide location, conveniently located at 4055 Inca St Suite 100 in Denver, CO. We’ll begin at noon with introductions and then enjoy a luscious 90-minute Yin practice where we’ll release those stubborn tensions deep within the joints. Then we’ll spend a little time talking about the Yoga teachings relating to the “subtle” body – the part of each of us beyond flesh and bone; the You that animates the physical body. Then we will flow into an all-levels Vinyasa practice where we’ll have fun exploring the energy body, applying some of the concepts from our discussion. After our physical practice, we’ll take a break with refreshments and then relax into a long and deeply restful Yoga Nidra. I’ve priced this retreat at $50 in the hope it will be accessible to everyone who wants to attend. That price includes refreshments and at least three separate yoga practices. I’ve capped the retreat at 25 attendees so we’ll have plenty of space on our mats.

February 11, 2:00-3:30 pm - Spiritual Liberation Through OM – A Very Accessible Introduction to the Mandukya Upanishad
The Mandukya Upanishad is a gift to all humankind and we are bringing this workshop to you in that same spirit, as a gift without charge. This is one of the simplest, and at the same time, most profound of the ancient Yoga texts. In 12 short and accessible verses, the Mandukya explains all that is, has been and will be. The Mandukya is essential study for all those on the spiritual path to liberation. Yet, Yoga trainings, both basic and advanced, rarely touch on its wisdom. Garry has spent hundreds of hours studying this sublime work and is excited to share these teachings in a compact 90-minute introductory workshop. We will examine the text and discover its view of the World and the Self and learn how to supercharge your Yoga practice with these foundational concepts.
No advanced knowledge of Yoga history, philosophy or practice is required. Register, show up with an open mind and heart, and prepare to learn how to advance your practice in ways you’ve never before imagined. The Mandukya meets everyone right where they are.
Samadhi Yoga Sangha has agreed to host this workshop and has generously agreed to offer it without charge to all who want to attend. No dana - no pay what you can. Just free for all who are curious enough to show up. February 11, Saturday, 2-3:30 at Samadhi Yoga, 639 East 19th Ave, Denver 80203.
This retreat was held July 27 - 29, 2018, at Sunrise Ranch. For pics from the retreat, scroll below.
What a great bunch of pics. Thanks to Karen Appel for taking them. There are so many great memories here. From the deep insight that comes from blindfold yoga to getting upside down and letting go (even a little bit) of those fears, to eating (lots of eating), walking and the coming together as a community. So beautiful to see. So honored to be able to create this space for your exploration!
